Tire Size
Right underneath the brand and model names, you’ll see P225 60R 16 86T. This is a code that gives you a quick snapshot of your tire. It tells you:
- Type of Tire/P = Passenger Tire
- Tire width in mm = 225 mm
- The sidewall ratio between height and width = 60% ratio
- How the tire is constructed/R = Radial tire ply
- The wheel diameter in inches/16 = 16-inch diameter
- The tire’s speed rating/T = a speed rating of 118 mph
- The terrain the tire can handle/ M+S = the tire can handle Mud and Snow
Load Index
The index number corresponds to the tire’s load-carrying capacity. That’s a fancy way of saying it’s the amount weight that your tire can support safely.
UTGQ
UTQG stands for Uniform Tire Quality Grading, a standard created by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). It’s a system that lets consumers compare tires based on treadwear, traction and temperature.
Load Range
Load range identifies the tire's load and inflation limits.
Sidewall
These codes indicate sidewall styling and include:
- BLK: Black Sidewall
- BSB: Broken Serrated Band
- WSW: White Sidewall
- OWL: Outline White Lettering.
- RWL: Raised White Lettering.
Tread Depth
The depth of the tire’s tread, in millimeters.
