HISTORIC RALLY

There has been huge growth in Historic rallying from mid 90's to-date. Events include tarmac road rallies covering several hundred miles with stages on closed roads or on road racing, winter events on ice and snow, and others on gravel tracks. Participating cars have to be road legal and not older than a 1931 or younger than a 1981 model. There are more than 17 classes for Touring and GT cars ranging from a Ford Anglia to Ferrari 250 GTO's. Avon's very successful CR6ZZ being the popular choice for most conditions. Avon has several ranges of road legal tyres suitable for most tarmac conditions including ACB10, CR500, CR28 SPORT and the very latest ZZR. For some events drivers are permitted to use hand cut slicks on closed roads and on circuit stages, Avon again has many of the sizes required.

HISTORIC RACE

Thoroughbred GP
Created in 1994, The FIA Thoroughbred Grand Prix World Championship is now quite simply the pinnacle of historic motorsport. Featuring the Grand Prix cars on the F1 scene between 1966 and 1985, the series runs on Avon tyres.

EuroBOSS
The EuroBOSS Championship, Europe’s fastest motor racing series, continues to grow in stature following its recent elevation to an ‘International Racing Series’ by the FIA. The championship is open to Indy Car and pre-1998 Formula One and F3000 chassis with engines of unlimited capacity.
Cars are able to compete to their full high-speed potential and race on Avon tyres.

International Supersports Cup
The International Supersports Cup (I.S.C.) is a series for "classic" prototype sportscar racing. Racingcars from the sixties and seventies are allowed, most of them of the old FIA Group 7 type. The Group 7 cars (and similar cars from the same era) have been given a new lease of life and compete in races all over Europe.

Classic F3
Classic F3 started in 1986. Its purpose was to utilise the chassis and engines that had been raced in the fantastic era of the late 70's. The championship comprises cars from manufacturers such as Ralt, Argo, March, Chevron, Safir, and Modus raced from 1st January 1974 to 31st December 1980. There is an additional class for 1600cc F3 cars built between 1971 - 1973.

Rallycross

European Rallycross

Rally cross takes place on a track with asphalt and mud/gravel with cars racing wheel to wheel against each other. Many of the cars are similar to the sophisticated world rally championship cars, but specially modified to rally cross specification to cope with the close wheel-to-wheel racing. All 3 classes of the FIA European Rallycross championship have been won on Avon tyres for the last 5 years. Current European Rallycross champion Kenneth Hansen has won the title seven time on Avon tyres.

European Hillclimb

A diverse range of cars, from "old" mini to Formula 1 can be raced, up a tarmac alpine hill as fast as possible from a standing start to a flying finish with speeds exceeding 150 mph possible on some sections. Hill races, whether 2km or 8 km long, are often won by 100th's of a second and the right choice of tyre is crucial as the tracks are steep and often close to mountain edges. Avon is the most successful and most prolific supplier, having developed super soft tyres for most applications.

British GT

From the 2006 Avon Tyres is the title sponsor and tyre supplier to the British GT Championships. This is a fabulous race series full of furious action, dramatic machinery, heroic driving and thrills aplenty. British GT cars reach top speeds of almost 200mph and are capable of 0-60 in around 3 seconds.

There are three different classes racing together in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship:

  • GT3 – this is for cars that are fairly close to standard. However, they are upgraded for safety reasons with a roll-cage and fire extinguisher system, amongst other things, and certain carefully governed performance enhancements are allowed. GT3 cars can be identified by their white race numbers on a red background.

  • GTC – these cars are another step from the GT3 machines towards being no-compromise racers. More extensive changes to components are allowed to improve performance, although within strictly imposed guidelines. You can tell a GTC car by its white race number on a black background.

  • GT2 – while still easily identifiable as being related to their road –going counterparts, these are the full-on race cars with large aerodynamic wings and spoilers and significantly uprated engines, brakes and suspension. Black race numbers on a white background identify a GT2 car.

Participating cars include Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus, Marcos, Panoz, Mosler and Aston Martin.

Caterham
There are many Caterham racing series throughout Europe. These include the Caterham R400, Caterham Roadsport A & B and Caterham Academy. Most recent is the Cosworth Caterham Masters series. This is specifically for Caterham’s new track challenger, the Seven CSR 260.

The 260bhp Caterham CSR 260 has been race bred to provide the ultimate motorsport experience and the race series will be run under the auspices of the Caterham Club Germany, the successful organisers of the domestic German Caterham championship. It will be the only Caterham series to permit the use of slicks, and Avon has created a racing tyre specially.

V de V (Challenge Endurance Moderne)
Eric Van De Vyver (V de V) started Challenge Endurance Moderne in 2000. GT, Sport Prototype and Touring cars are all eligible for participation. The Sport Prototype class has grown considerably in popularity. Grids often exceed 45 cars and can reach 80 on grids at tracks such as Spa. The SP class attracts a variety of prototype makes and in 2005 all cars have to run on Avon, the chosen tyre supplier. Avon has developed many specifications in a range of sizes to cover all the makes entering the most popular class. Races take place in France, Belgium and Spain with many UK drivers and teams attracted to the close racing. Against the general trend in current motorsport V de V has created one the most successful new forms of racing.

Oval Racing

SCSA
Stock Car Speed Association (SCSA) is a unique series in European motorsport. The SCSA Racing package consists of the awesome 450bhp Stock Cars, along with the ultra-close Pickup Trucks.

Battling two or three-wide at speeds in excess of 170mph around banked oval circuits, the 5.7 Litre V8 Stock Cars offer an amazing spectacle. Most SCSA Stock Car races take place over 60 laps, with a two by two rolling start. The race then includes a mandatory pit stop during which two tyres must be changed. Avon Tyres Racing has supplied tyres to this series for the last two years.

Pick-ups
The Pickup Truck series are very different, but still very specialised oval racing machines. With 229bhp 2.0 16v engines, the trucks run average lap speeds of over 130mph. The lower speeds provide a better opportunity for cars to run much close and draft each other, meaning that many Pickup Truck races are decided on the final corner of the final lap. Races take place over a shorter distance of 25 laps with no mandatory pit stops.

A1GP

Cooper Tire, through its Avon Tyres Motorsports operation, has signed a three-year agreement to supply tyres to the new A1 Grand Prix series. This is a new concept in the field of motorsport with national franchises offered around the world for teams to participate in a one-make series, starting in September 2005. Racing will take place in some of the world’s most exotic locations, during the European motorsport off-season.

Formula 3

Win in British Formula 3 and you're marked as a man-to-watch. Around the world, no other race series has produced as many Grand Prix winners and World Champions as British Formula 3. Avon Tyres Motorsports has proudly been associated with British F3 since 1982 and has attended nearly 400 races, supplying the teams with their control tyre requirements.

It is a demanding showcase for Avon products. The cars have a 2-litre engine, developing over 212 bhp and, with the aerodynamic downforce, giving a straight-line speed of 165mph.

Formula 3 is widely regarded as an excellent training ground for serious up and coming Formula 1 drivers. Any driver who shows his worth in this formula can move straight from F3 to F1 as several drivers have done in the past, including Jenson Button, Mauricio Gugelmin, Mika Hakkinen, Johnny Herbert, Rubens Barrichello and the late Ayrton Senna.

Formula Ford

Formula Ford enters its 38th year this season. During three decades the series has grown phenomenally and is run in 22 countries world-wide.

Formula Ford has helped launch the careers of some talented drivers including Eddy Irvine, David Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen and Nigel Mansell to name a few.
