FINDLAY, OHIO, APRIL 25, 2012 – COOPER TIRE & RUBBER COMPANY (NYSE: CTB) is pleased to announce its plan to commemorate its 100-year anniversary in the tire industry and its heritage in the Findlay community with an investment in a new, state-of-the-art sustainable track and field complex at Findlay High School. The Company is partnering with the Findlay City Schools to provide Findlay High School with a multipurpose facility that will benefit thousands of students and athletes each year, while also establishing a monument to Cooper Tire's legacy and commitment to education, leadership development, and community involvement and support.
"We are excited to sponsor a new track and field for Findlay High School in honor of our upcoming centennial celebration," said Roy Armes, Cooper Tire's Chairman, President and CEO. "This is an investment in our youth and potential young leaders of tomorrow, including many children of Cooper employees and our Findlay neighbors, and fits with our long tradition of supporting and advocating education and developmental opportunities for students of all ages. I can't think of a better way to honor the generations of Cooper employees who've given to Cooper and their communities than an investment in the generations to come."
The new complex, including a nine-lane track and multi-use competitive field, will not only support physical education, but also provide a venue for competitive athletic contests and community events that capture the spirit of the Flag City. This new state-of-the-art track and field facility is projected to be utilized by thousands of students and community members every year.
“This is a wonderful and unique opportunity for our students and the community," said Dean Wittwer, Superintendent of Schools for Findlay City Schools. "This collaboration between Cooper Tire and Findlay City Schools is another example of what makes the Findlay community extraordinary. This project is possible because of a significant capital funding commitment Cooper Tire has made to the school.”
The plans to build a new track and field infrastructure are currently underway, with an expected completion date of October 2012. The existing high school cinder track and field area behind Findlay High will be replaced with a new recycled rubber material, providing an environmentally friendly surface that is durable and offers low maintenance. The new field will be comprised of recycled rubber that will be resilient, durable and impermeable that can withstand whatever weather comes its way.
“For nearly 100 years, Cooper has supported the communities in which we live and work,” continued Armes. “Helping to build our communities is important to our heritage and who we are as a company today. By focusing our corporate responsibility efforts into four key areas – education, community engagement, products and environmental sustainability – we offer opportunities to give back and build toward the future."
